Myth: Residents at assisted living facilities loose all privacy and control over their lives.

Fact: While residents have staff available if they require assistance with personal needs, such as grooming, bathing and dressing, they are always treated with respect and always retain their dignity. If they don’t need the assistance it is not “pushed” on them. It is paramount that the resident feel comfortable with the assistance they receive and if they need extra help, they ask for it.

Myth: Assisted living facilities in NJ are just another type of depressing hospital or nursing home.

Fact: Absolutely not. Most assisted living facilities in NJ have onsite medical care and 24-hour emergency care so when a problem arises, it can be handled quickly. Additionally, some facilities have care for Alzheimer’s patients and can even provide rehabilitation and dialysis. None of this means it is a hospital or nursing home. It simply means that these facilities do as much as possible to provide quality care for their residents. If a serious medical issue arises, it may require transport of the resident to a hospital for additional care. At the end of the day, whatever is needed to make sure the best medical care is provided to the resident, is what will be done.
